Car Review: Mercedes Benz S-Class

Mercedes Benz S-Class is definitely a luxury car worth buying. Striking a perfect balance between performance and price, the saloon has a 272 V6 engine that offers more than enough power to go from zero to 100 in around eight seconds. Its lightweight chassis construction also contributes to its acceleration speed. The chassis is a mix of high-strength steel and aluminum. In addition, the optimisation of the combustion process also reduced the fuel consumption average, placing it at 10.2 litres per 100 km. Handling and ride dynamics are just as impressive.

The interiors define beauty with a multi-functional COMAND — Cockpit Management and Data System. This has an integrated radio, 8-inch colour display, DVD drive and PCMCIA slot. It features luxury equipment such as a navigation system, hands-free mobile phone communication and Harman Kardon audio system. The interiors are also beautifully trimmed with Calyptus wood which is a perfect match for its rich leather. The exterior body itself bears a resemblance to the ultra high-end Maybach line. It is distinguishable by its aggressive fender flares and wedge-like profile with a rising character line. This car class offers 17-inch 5-spoke light alloy wheels for S350, S320 CDI and S 350 L and the 18-inch version for S500 and S500 L. This is the carmaker’s largest sedan.

Safety is another of this car’s strengths. It has Adaptive Lighting Systems that swings five to tend degrees laterally with every swing of the steering wheel. Furthermore, it has Night View Assist which displays real-time infrared images within a screen nestled in the gauge cluster that alerts the driver to potential hazards.  Electronic Stability Program which includes anti-lock braking system (ABS), acceleration skid control (ASR) and Brake Assist system (BAS).

In Australia, this car sells under the standard and the long-wheelbase versions.
